back pain in from sitting in officeWe spend much of our daily life working, even if you work from home in a home office.  For this reason, it is important to take care of your back, especially when you are spending so much time in an office chair.

The best way to take care of back pain from sitting in office chairs for long periods of time is to consider a lumbar support office chair.  This can take the pressure off the back during prolonged periods of sitting.

3 Types of Lumbar Support Office Chairs

You don’t have to suffer sitting in a straight back chair at your office or home office.  There are chairs and devices you can use to sit comfortably in the chair for as many hours as you need to.  Here are some comfy chair types for those who need extra lumbar support when sitting for long periods of time:

1. Adjustable Lumbar Support Office Chairs

They make specialized chairs that can  adjust to your back. They usually come in an nice comfortable leather or fabric. Different chairs has different solutions to adjust the lumbar part of the chair. Some use a dial and some use movement.

You can dial in just a little bit of lumbar support if you don’t have a lot of curvature to your lumbar spine.  If you have a lot of curvature to your lumbar spine, you can dial it so that the back of the chair is convex as much as you need it to be in order for your entire back to be supported by the chair.

The advantages of a adjustable lumbar support office chair, is that it can adjust to fit exactly to the amount of curvature you have in your back for a maximum amount of comfort.  The disadvantage of this type of chair is that it can be more expensive than a simpler version. There is a lot of technology in this type of chair and it shows up in its price tag.

2. Nonadjustable lumbar support office chairs.

These are usually fabric sometimes fake  leather chairs that are made to form-fit to your back. The lumbar support feature is built into the design of the chair so that you can sit with comfort on a chair that is designed with its own lumbar curvature built into the chair.

The advantage of this type of, nonadjustable lumbar support office chair, is that there are no moving parts as there are in the adjustable lumbar support chair and therefore there is no chance that the chair parts will break.  The disadvantage of this type of lumbar support office chair is that the amount of lumbar support (the amount of convexity in the lumbar area of the chair) might not fit perfectly with the amount of lumbar curvature you have in your back.

The chair can be too convex or not convex enough so that you won’t feel like the chair is built exactly for you.

3. Pillow Support for a Chair

There are pillows that can be put around the chair so that you can use your regular office chair with a lumbar support pillow that is affixed to the chair with an elastic strap.

It isn’t very attractive but it serves the purpose of providing you with lumbar support on just about any type of chair you choose.  The main advantages of using a pillow support is that it is inexpensive and can be moved for use in just about any chair you may be sitting in.

The best way to find the perfect chair is to sit in it before buying it to make sure it fits your lumbar curvature.
