There are a many great heating pads on the market, but Thermophore heating pads are among the best looking at customer satisfaction.

Thermophore’s heating pads are great for treating a lot of conditions and especially useful for easing pain. The heat from the pads penetrate deep into the muscles and help them relax. After prolonged usage, this relaxing and soothing effect on the muscles will lead to reduced muscle soreness and stiffness, along with better mobility and flexibility. Better mobility and flexibility are things everyone should strive for because not only do they allow for easier movement while playing sport and the like, they help prevent injuries while doing so.

This article will cover the top 4 thermophore models:

  • model 055
  • model 155
  • model 255
  • model 355

Essentially, they are the same when it comes to how they benefit the body and help soothe pain; however, they have some small differences when it comes to function and features.

All 4 of these models are moist heat pads, which means that they draw moisture from the air and release it when turned on. The two main differences between the heating pads are the different controllers and that some models come with the extra moist pack.

4. Model 055 – Thermophore Classic

This Thermophore Classic 055 model comes with a removable flannel case inside which the pad should be kept before use. After inserting the pad inside the case, plug it into the power output and you’re good to go. Simply place the pad on the area that you desire.

This model comes with a switch controller. This means that you have to press and hold down the switch while the temperature keeps rising. Once the heat is at the level you want, release the switch and the heat will slowly decrease.

Unlike some of the other models, this one does not allow you to set the heat at a certain level. The pad can get quite hot so this switch is seen as a safety measure. Speaking of safety, do not sleep with the pad, do not fold it, and do not sit or lie on the pad.

3. Model 155 – Thermophore MaxHeat

This model 155 comes with a cotton fleece cover inside of which the pad should be placed flat before use. The instructions to use are just like that of the model 055 however there is one small difference.

This model has a different type of controller. The controller has a slider, and you can choose between three different heat levels: high, medium, or low. This means that unlike the model 055, you don’t have to keep pressing the button to maintain the heat; however, unlike the model 055, the heat levels are fixed.

Since this model does not have the switch to control the heat, it has another safety feature. It has an automatic shut off, which turns the heat off automatically after a period of around 25 minutes.

Again, please avoid sitting/lying on the pad or sleeping with the pad for your own safety.

2. Model 255 – Thermophore Classic Plus Automatic Moist Heat Pack

Just like the model 055, the model 255 has a switch controller. The only difference between this and the model 055 is that this model comes with an extra moist pack.

The outer fleece cover uses the humidity present in the air to create moisture just like the model 055 but it also has an extra pocket in which a damp fleece cloth can be added for extra moisture.

As the name suggests, this is the deluxe version of the model 055 and is better suited if you live in dry climates.

1. Model 355 – Thermophore MaxHeat Plus Automatic Moist Heat Pack

This Thermophore MaxHeat plus 355 is essentially the deluxe version of the model 155, as it has the slide controller like the model 155, but it also has an extra pocket like the model 255.

The extra pocket in the cover is for placing another damp cloth. This model should be the one for you if you prefer the slide controller and live in a dry area.

Why Heat and What Can It Help With?

If you are suffering from aches and pains, you are probably looking for ways to recover quickly, using heat is one way to speed up recovery. Not only does the heat penetrate deep into the muscles to relax them, it also stimulates blood flow in the area. We often don’t move enough while injured, and as a consequence there is decreased blood flow especially in the injured areas. The heat improve the blood circulation which allows for a greater amount of oxygen and nutrients to reach the desired areas, increasing the speed of recovery.

Furthermore, thermophore’s heating pads ease all different kinds of pains by stimulating the sensory receptors on our skin. They are responsible for sending the different signals to the brain, and the heat will reduce the pain signals sent to the brain. It should be noted that heat pads should not be used for fresh injuries, or injuries that have occurred very recently. This is because there will be a lot of inflammation with fresh injuries, and the heat may actually exacerbate that. Here are some conditions for which heat pads can be used:

  • Muscle Spasms
  • Back Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • TMJ
  • Rheumatic Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sciatica
  • Bursitis

So which one of these 4 Thermophore heating pads will you go with?
