For those of you soccer players out there, you know that soccer can be a very physical contact sport. So, it should not come as a surprise that 67% of foot and ankle injuries are caused by direct contact. In my case, I first sprained my ankle when going in for a tackle. A few years later, I then broke a bone by blocking a strong shot in which I did not lock my ankle properly. Thus, I think I fall under this statistic as well.

Also, most ankle injuries are caused by force from the medial or lateral direction, which makes sense since that is the part of the foot you use most while playing and going in for those 50/50 balls. More specifically, the injuries are typically incomplete ligament sprains. Furthermore, most injured body parts in soccer are the ankle, knee, and head/face.

So, the chances of a soccer player undergoing an ankle injury of some sort are quite high and fairly common. For instance, my second ankle sprain, that resulted at the same time in which my bone chipped, was a high ankle sprain in which I partially tore a ligament.

Ankle braces may feel stiff at first, but as you wear them, you will enjoy the added support, structure, and alignment that it has to offer. Additionally, you will see that you can still dribble through your opponents, even while wearing an ankle brace! If anything, I feel that it gives me extra confidence to play with even more aggression and power than before.

Furthermore, wearing an ankle brace is a great form of injury prevention and helping with active recovery. This investment can truly minimize the risk of injury, which I believe is definitely worth it!
