Benefits of the Sunbeam Xpress Heat XL
Muscle relaxation – With this heat pad you can help increase blood flow to sore areas and get your muscles to relax. This is perfect if you are experience muscle stiffness, or after a long day at the office.
Faster healing – With use of a heating pad you will experience relaxed muscles and faster healing.
You don`t have to wait – The Sunbeam XpressHeat heats up in only 30 seconds so that you don`t have to wait for the heat treatment to start.
Feels great on your skin – This is a very soft, comfortable, pliable heating pad made out of micro-plush fabric, that easily forms against your body. It is flexible and will get to areas where stiff plastic pads don`t.
How to Use the Heating Pad
When you get your package, the cord and the heating pad are not connected. Before plugging the cord in the outlet, make sure that the cord and the heating pad are connected. Yes, the control/cord must be connected to the heating pad before plugging it in. If not done in this order, it might cause a blinking F in the display and the pad will not heat up.
To turn your heating pad on, press the power button. After it`s on, you have 6 different heat settings to choose from. 1 being slightly warm and 6 being your hottest alternative.
Place the pad against your body. You can use it to ease pain in your neck, shoulders, back or knees for example. It is easy to wrap around joints. The heating pad will keep you warm during those cold chilly days.
To turn the heat pad off push the power button again.
How NOT to Use the Pad
Reading the manual and warnings on the item. It says to not sit on or against the pad. Do not crush the heating pad. Avoid folding it during use. You should not use it with liniment, salve or ointment. Do not use it while sleeping (although I have read of many users doing this). Sunbeam wants to protect you and themselves; therefor their long list of how not to use their product.
Features of the XpressHeat Pad
Sunbeam XpressHeat king size heating pad
This pad is an extra-large heating pad, also called a king size heat pad. The listed size is 12 x 24. When we measured it the actual size was more like 11 x 23.5.
How Long to Feel the Heat
The Sunbeam XpressHeat Heating Pad takes only 30 seconds to heat up.
This heating pad does not come with a separate cover, you can not take it off from the main pad. The material that it`s made off is a soft micro plush and it is fully washable. To wash it you have to disconnect the cord. You can wash it by hand or throw it in the washing machine. Make sure you read the washing instructions before washing your pad.
The pad comes with a digital controller, with an LCD display.
There are four buttons, this is not a slide controller.
- Power button
- Auto off button
- Heat setting button up
- Heat setting button down
By using the controller you can choose between 6 different heat settings.
One of the discussions around this pad is – “Does it get hot enough?” This is of course a personal preference, but with 6 different heat settings most people will find one that suits their needs. I use mine on number 6 since I prefer a hot heating pad. At that level the heating pad gets hot, comfortably hot, for my taste.
If you are looking for a pad that gets very hot I would look at some of the other options, the Thermophore gets really hot, up to 176 F.
My husband is a little more sensitive to heat and use it on heat setting 4 or 5 . I usually leave it on for a long period of time while my husband uses it for a shorter period of time.
After a lot of research online we found that most people are happy with the heat settings. There are a few complaints that the pad does not get hot enough even at the highest setting. On the other hand I have heard customers that say it gets too hot too fast…
When it comes to the auto off function you have two options. By pressing the auto-off button, you can set the timer to stay on or to shut down after 2 hours. This will allow you to use it with automatic shut off. So two options:
- Set for 2 hours
- Continuous heat
Some users experience a flashing F (meaning failure), in the display. Make sure that the cord with the display is connected to the heating pad BEFORE plugging it into the electric socket. The flashing F can be avoided by doing this. If you still get a Flashing F, disconnect from the electric socket, make sure the cord is tightly connected with the heating pad, wait 2 minutes and then plug it back in.
Dry or Moist Heating
In fact the Sunbeam XpressHeat pad can be used for both.
Dry heat – just plug it in and enjoy the dry heat.
Moist heat – for moist heat you need to moisten one side of the heating pad. You can dampen either side by using a wet sponge or cloth. Alternatively use a spray bottle to apply fine mist.
You do not want to soak the pad or dampen the pad connector. Make sure you read the instructions before using the moist heat.
The controller is listed as: 120V AC outlet.180 Watts, 60 Hz.
UL listed: Yes
Electric/Battery/Microwavable operated: Electric
Cord Length: 20” from wall socket to control – 5” control – 78” to the socket that attaches to the heating pad
2 or 3 prong plugin: 2 prong
The heating pad is made in China.
What Does the Heat Pad DO?
The heating pad will dilate the blood vessels of the muscles in your chosen area. The heating process increases the oxygen flow and nutrients to your muscles to help heal the damage.
Heat also stimulates the sensory receptors in your skin, which means a decrease in the pain signals to your brain, which makes you feel pain relief.
The heat also decreases stiffness and increases flexibility, making you feel more comfortable.
The Pad Help Eases Pain:
Back pain – Stretch the pad over your back and let it warm up your muscles and help ease that back pain.
Neck or Shoulder pain – This heating pad wraps nicely around your neck and down on your shoulders. The soft material and the heat will help loosen your neck muscles and relieve the pain.
Joints – Since the heating pad is so flexible it`s easy to wrap around your joints, a knee or an arm for example.
Cold and achy – If you get cold (maybe during the winter months) and achy this is a great pad to give you that extra warmth when you need it. Use one of the 6 heat settings to get it just the temperature you need.
Menstrual cramps – This pad has helped with menstrual cramps as well.
Who Should Buy the Sunbeam Xpress Heating Pad?
Pain Relief – If you are looking for a heating pad to ease back or shoulder pain, then this heating pad might be the solution for you.
Stay warm – If you want to stay warm and cozy, during those cold winter months, the Sunbeam Xpress Pad can help you with that.
Quick heat – If you need a pad that heats up quickly, then the Sunbeam XpressHeat Heating pad is a good option for you since it only takes 30 seconds for it to heat up.
Continuous heat – If you are looking for a heat pad that will stay on, then this pad will do the job.
Pliable – If you want to be able to bend and form the heating pad easily to make it fit your body, this pad will do that.
Comfortable heating pad – If you are tired of the stale plastic pads then this comfortable heating pad will take care of that issue. It is soft plush and feels great on your skin. There are no extra covers so nothing “falls off” the pad.
Do NOT Buy If…
Sleeping with your pad – If you want to sleep with your heating pad or if you want to lie on it, this might not be your best option. Although I have seen many reviews of people that do, the suggestions from Sunbeam is to not sleep with the pad. If this is what your main use is going to be I suggest you take a look at one of the mattress pads instead.
Removable cover – If you are looking for a pad with a removable cover, then this pad is not for you. The XpressHeat Heating pad is washable but it does not have a removable cover. If this is what you are looking for take a closer look at heating pads with removable covers.
Pros and Cons
- Eases pain and helps you stay warm.
- Heats up in 30 seconds, very quickly compared to some of the competitors.
- Continuously stays on – this pad is one of few that offers the automatic shut-off OR to continuously stay on.
- Pliable – It is very easy to form against your body.
- Comfortable and soft against skin.
- Some have experienced the pad not getting hot enough – this would be a personal preference though.
- Size of the pad – Although most people love the size of the heat pad some would like to see it a little bit larger, since it is categorized a king size.
- Non removable cover – Although it is washable, for some this might be an issue that you can`t just take the cover off and through it in the machine.

Right now I am looking at the 10 latest costumer reviews for this heating pad over at Amazon. Just looking at the first page of reviews from today and yesterday ALL of them are 5 out of 5 stars. This might change though…
If you are using this for pain relief and this pad will give it to you, then it will probably be worth the extra dollars.
Another thing to consider is how often will you use the heating pad? Is this a pad that you use a few times a year or use it almost daily?
So, the pad heats up in 30 seconds, you can keep it on as long as you want with the continuous button and it is made out of a soft plush cover…
Compared with other similar products this is a good buy.
